Best known for her unforgettable performance in Wong Kar-wai’s modern classic In the Mood for Love 2000, Cheung has a career that stretches over four decades and spans Hong Kong, France and North America. This program showcases such highlights as her thrilling role in Jackie Chan’s action spectacular Police Story 1985, and the enigmatic drama Irma Vep 1996. CHARLES BURNETT: L.A. REBEL 10–22 October 2025 | Free This program explores the extraordinary films of Charles Burnett, a key figure of the ‘L.A. Rebellion’ — a loosely associated group of Black American filmmakers who emerged from UCLA’s film school in the 1960s and 70s. In a career repeatedly beset by institutional hurdles, Burnett nevertheless established himself as one of the premier documenters of life in the United States, with his debut feature Killer of Sheep 1978 (a textured portrait of Los Angeles’s Watts neighbourhood) finding new audiences this year after its recent 4K restoration.
